Brewery History and Background:
Back in a time when many commerce ships were running
between Hokkaido and Osaka, a kimono businessman from
Osaka named Shyoemon Nishimura came to Akita and founded
our brewery. This was 250 years ago, making us one of
the most historical breweries in Akita. Our current
president is the 16th generation of the family to lead
us. Our toji brew master and brewers brew sake using
stubbornly preserved traditional methods with eager
efforts with a goal of "Quality 1st" to create the reliable
sake we make today. We have won many awards in national
and other sake tasting competitions as well.
Origins of the name:
Our name was decided during the Meiji era for the national
sake tasting contest by the 12th generation president,
also named Shyoemon Nishimura. Several names were considered,
including Kita Masamune, Daikokumai and Ayamusume, but
in the end Raku Izumi "the spring of enjoyment" was
chosen as sake fills people's hearts with enjoyment. |

Brewery History and Background:
Back when the company was founded in 1901, we were just
a small brewery, but in the Taisho era, due to enthusiastic
efforts we expanded to our present size. We have an
extremely effective underground space of about 100 square
meters that we call the Ittetsu-gura that is used to
store premium sake until ready for release. The brewery
itself is bounded to the east by a mountain range and
to the west by the Sea of Japan, and is excellent for
sake brewing since during the brewing season it gets
very cold.
Origins of the name:
In the foothills behind the brewery is a shrine called
Shirataki, which means white waterfall, and behind the
shrine is an actual waterfall. This shrine was once
founded by the well-known monk Jikaku Daishi; the name
of the brewery is thought to have come from this shrine
and waterfall. |
