Brewery History and Background:
The brewery was founded by the 7th generation leader
of the Ito family, Niemon Ito. Using low temperature,
slow fermentation methods, we won a top award in the
first national sake tasting competition in 1907, and
have won many since then, including two "Awards of Honor."
Since then we have continued actively promoting, and
while making the name Ryozeki of Akita well known in
Tokyo, we have helped pass on brewing technology. So
Ryozeki style developed Akita style and Tokyo style
finally.
Origins of the name:
From long ago, in the east of Japan, Masamune referred
to a great sword. In the west of Japan, it was Munechika
that referred to a great sword. These represented the
"Ozeki," or strong men, of the east and west. We named
our sake Ryozeki, or "both Ozeki," in hopes it would
rule both east and west. |

Brewery History and Background:
The brand name "Bishu Ranman" was born in 1922 when
a group of Akita Prefecture brewers invested in a project
to sell more Akita sake in other prefectures. We have
survived many tough times, such as World War II, and
have managed to make through to the present. We have
since our inception continued to pursue the brewing
of great sake, with the aim of "quality first," using
Akita style low-temperature, slow fermentation methods.
Origins of the name:
Our name was selected from among many submitted during
a survey back when the company was founded. The label
design was created specially for us by a famous artist
of the time, Mr. Katsumi Saito. |

Brewery History and Background:
We were founded in 1615, by a great vassal of the great
Toyotomi Hideyoshi named Kimura Nagatonokami Shigenari,
and we are one of the oldest sake breweries in Akita
prefectures. We prospered along with the Innai silver
mines during the reign of the feudal clans, and in 1905,
after the opening of the Ohu train line, we began shipping
our sake to other prefectures as well. In 1909, at the
second national sake tasting competition, we won a first
prize and have continued to win many awards since then.
The company incorporated in 1997.
Origins of the name:
In 1881, when the Emperor passed through this part of
the country, the main vassal, whose name was Tokudaiji,
stayed here and had our sake. That sake was sweet and
fragrant, and he suggested that we call it "Shofuku
Musume," or "smiling fortunate daughter." However, due
to a trademark conflict, we changed it to Fuku Komachi,
taking the name from that of a famous Japanese waka
poet, Onono Komachi, from the Heian era about 800 A.D. |

Brewery History and Background:
We began in April of 1945 with investment from Akita
Prefecture sake brewers and sellers as a producer of
blended sake, shochu and grain alcohol. We began to
brew sake itself in 1975, one year after moving to our
present location and merging with Yuzawa Meijo brewing
company. And, in October of 1993, with an eye to the
future we completed and began to use our Heisei Kura
brewery.
Origins of the name:
Senryo is taken from "senryo yakusha," or an actor paid
1000 ryo, and this is indicative of an actor of high
standing. This sake is worthy of commanding 1000 ryo
for even one drop itteki, hence the name Itteki Senryo. |
